Bao’an Stadium Shenzhen

The city of Shenzhen is located in the subtropical region of China, a region characterised by its many green areas and lush vegetation. The design of the Bao'an Stadium takes inspiration from the plant which symbolises the south of China – the bamboo. The central design concept for the stadium is the bamboo forest, which sits at the heart of the architectural language, creating a light and cheerful visual identity.
The stadium features a cantilever membrane roof to cover the seating areas and a network of steel supports. The green steel columns create a unique interplay of light and shadow surrounding the stadium exterior.
It is a multi-purpose stadium that was built on the outskirts of the city to host the football matches during the International Universiade 2011 and is located in the immediate vicinity of sports arena and swimming pool.
In 2013, the stadium was presented with the gold medal in the International Olympic Committee and International Association for Sports and Leisure Facilities biennial awards.
The Shenzhen Bao’an stadium has just undergone a modification project that lasted 3 months. The upgrade included brand new main running track and training running track, renovation of competition facilities and lighting system.
After the completion of the upgrade, World Athletics has issued the Shenzhen Baoan Stadium with class 1 athletics facility certificate. This means the facilities meets all the technical requirements of the World Athletics Rules for world class competitions. The stadium has also got acceptance from the experts from Chinese Athletic Association. The lighting system meets the requirements of CCTV and other world class television broadcasters to produce top international athletic events live on TV.
The renovation of Baoan Stadium will contribute greatly to the introduction of large-scale international sports events in Shenzhen on hardware preparation. It will further facilitate Bao'an District to build an international famous sports events urban area. This cooperation has opened a new chapter in the cooperation between Wanda Sports and Shenzhen in the sports industry. There will be further cooperation between the two sides in a wider range of fields in the future to achieve strong alliances and create new reputation for Shenzhen represented by international events.
